Row Your Boat (1997)
Well cast... (the) film manages to stay above water most of the way on the strength of the unusual give-and-take between appealing leads Jon Bon Jovi and Bai Ling.... Jamey's initial attraction is delightfully conveyed in a light, credible manner... Despite the rote action elements, the sweet grace notes, especially in the early going, are a credit to writer-director Mitchell and attractive thesps Bon Jovi and Ling; he's charming in self-deprecating way, while she puts on a winningly sunny and sometimes madcap facade to mask her inner tension and worries. --Todd McCarthy, Variety, April 10, 2000
It's a shame that Row Your Boat did not receive a big theatrical release. It's the kind of quality story that's missing from the local cineplex. Each cast member does an astounding job with his/her character, especially Jon Bon Jovi. He is perfect as the sweet, sensitive, charming, and slightly insecure Jamey Meadows. Row Your Boat is a tale of love and morality. Jamey Meadows is an every day hero, struggling to do right when wrong is pulling at him. This film is one of the few worth the purchase price. It's the rare gem of a movie that will be watched over and over and get recommended to friends, family, and complete strangers at the video store.
When I watched this movie, Jon Bon Jovi's great performance made me forget that he was an international rock-star! His great performance as a homeless ex-con in this film made me think of him as a bona-fide actor, and nothing else. His acting, along with the good story-line, is what sells this film....The story is awesome, the support cast is great, and the lead role played by Jon Bon Jovi will make you sympathize with his situation. Personally, this film may just be the stepping stone for Jon Bon Jovi into a great film career. You do not want to miss this film, and above all, you do not want to miss Jon's performance.
It's got a good story line, and some good performances, especially from Jon Bon Jovi, who continues to impress as an actor.

Homegrown (1998)
Of the troupers, Bon Jovi's turn as a wholesale drug dealer is the sole standout...
Jon Bon Jovi plays himself well as the smooth Danny... The climax, a drug deal involving the deceptively mellow Jon Bon Jovi, stretches out the suspense...
Bon Jovi's soporific performance as the drug dealer Danny is the insomniac's Holy Grail...
Watch out for a scene stealing Jon Bon Jovi in a two scene cameo.
"He has what it takes to be a serious leading man; this guy is going to be a star again." |
Little City (1998)
You have a great cast... Jon Bon Jovi is once again good in an acting role.
Jon Bon Jovi brings an honest and charming aproach that has been lost from the acting world. It helps his character stand apart at times from the others.
I pleaded but they didn't give me any love scenes with Jon...Jon is so very cute and he's equally charming. He's having great fun acting, but he insists he's a rocker to the core.
What I found which was really pleasantly surprising I guess is how seriously he too it and he's really gone to acting classes and he's really a student and so he takes it very seriously and he's very dedicated and I think it shows.
He has this combination of being confident, yet humble and then sexy. So all that wrapped into one is really good.
